Year and place: 1970, Vaggeryd
This car is a dream come true.
Inspired by a plastic model car of a Mercedes-Benz SSK and magazine photos of the repli-car Excalibur SS, Bertil Carlsson built an open 2-seated roadster with a metal body and soft top. With classics like chromed exhausts pipes coming out from the sides of the hood and spoke wheels, he built a car with clear threads to the designs origin. A kind of look-alike.
He got the car registred less than one hour before the old swedish regulations for home-built cars ceased to be valid - to be replaced by new regulations including among others mandatory crash tests even for this kind of cars.
A kind of look-alike, yes. The body is mounted on a 1956 Volvo Duett chassis, so it is shorter than 4 metres. Initially it had a Volvo B16 engine, but this was later replaced with a stronger B18.
In 1997 the good-looking BC could still be seen in traffic. Maybe today, too?
