More than 150.000 Fords were assembled in Sweden, mostly British models.
During World War II Svenska Ford bought a large number of scrapped Ford trucks. These were renovated and sold with a special guarantee. According to one source thousands of trucks got this kind of new life. Many of them was fitted with a special boggie for private car tires, due to lack of truck tires. During the war it was usual to fit cars for woodgas.
During the war Ford also had an assembly plant in Boden, far north in Sweden. The parts for the trucks was shipped to the Finnish port Petsamo, at the Arctic Ocean, far away from Stockholm. Around 1.000 trucks were assembled in Boden. They were built for the Swedish defence, but one source tells that most of them probably were used in Finland - when Finland was attacked by the Soviet Union early during the war many Swedish volunteers helped in the defence of Finland, also using fighter planes...
Another kind of Ford
On 28 January 1999 a press release announced: "Volvo enters into agreement with Ford to sell Volvo Cars for 50 billion and concentrates on commercial products". Volvo and Ford had signed a Heads of Agreement with the intention of concluding a definitive sale and purchase agreement as soon as practicable. The sale was fulfilled with both Volvo shareholder and customary regulatory approval.
