'The Monster' is a Saab 93 made for speed records.
A 93 was stripped and fitted with a plastic bonnet to reduce its weight. It had two 748cc three cylinder two stroke engines - almost 1,5 litres volume giving "well over 100hp".
In 1959 the Monster travelled at 196km/h, which was a record speed. But - they had no independent inspectors, and the car was only driven in one direction.
The Monster was also tested on Gelleråsen race track, but it was hard to steer. Also they got trouble with the transmission.
There were no more speed record tests, but the car was kept and now belongs to the Saab museum in Trollhättan.
