This made me nostalgic today

Friday 1 May 2009. Earlier today I asked a neighbour if there was something special going on, since there seemed to be so many motorcycles passing. Not anything he knew about.

Something made me ask Mr Web, and the answer was more positive. But nothing about the route, and I had some things to do in the temporary room here, so I decided to stay indoors.

But I was lucky - it was a room with a view. Here's a hastily made web page.

Update 3 May
I read that the motorcycles were led by former Speedway driver Varg-Olle Nygren, who raced for Vargarna (the Wolves). Sadly he had a reason to be in a car on this day, but he still is a MC driver. Two years ago he made a trip from Korea to Sweden. He is 79 years old now.

The number of bikes have been estimated from hundreds to more than a thousand. I think there were at least not so far from 1.000 bikes passing here.

Peking MC, who have arranged the event since 1972, also attracted more than 700 cars to join.

I've also added info about a few cars in the text below.

Following the escort, a bunch of lovely sound machines were approaching.

Some memories rolled down my memory roads, especially from the Twin Club meets in the 1970s.

Once they had to stop, but the music continued.

There were some goodies for my eyes too.

The concert had one more silent part, when a group of Goldwings passed, but otherwise the throbbing beat filled my ears for 23 minutes. The time between the first photo, and the last photo with three escorting shadows at the end.

Less than an hour later another escort vehicle passed the window, a Volvo that was followed by a Scania that was loaded with another kind of music.

Mr Web had told me that it was a veteran car parade, but I understood from the beginning that it would have a special theme.

Yeah, I was right. The Volvo Amazon was one of rather few cars that were built in other countries.

This too sent me back to various memory lanes.
(The photos here are not published exactly in the right sequence.)

A Volvo 142 cab, and a Volvo PV 544.

This don't know if this Cobra replica was built in Sweden, but it uses Saab parts for the steering.

Double fins. Nice design. I'm not sure that I've seen that model before. A Pontiac Catalina from 1959, apparently.

The Citroen CV2 was almost too fast for my small digital camera...

Two more Volvos, roomy models. Below a PV831 from 1950.

Also a more unusual model, to me.
Buick 41-5 Special Touring Sedan (I think the full name is), from 1939.

A Volvo 744 pick-up, and a Volvo P1800.

One of my many favourites...

The small DAF cars (here a 6623 from 1975) 'became' Volvo 66 when DAF's private car production was taken over by Volvo in 1974.

Lots of extras at the rear.

Oh so white in the bright sunshine between the buildings. An hour and a half after the truckload of musicians passed, the car parade had passed the window. At much slower speed than the motorcycles had driven, partly because of traffic jamming now and then. So, now and then there were more time for me to look at the cars.

During the evening I now and then 'had to' go to the window...

Finally I got a photo of that car, but it was getting dark.

The things I had to do today? Well, I hastily put this page together over lunch and some dessert and some snacks... - and then I'll fix those things. At least some of it. I think...

There sure will be some hot partying this night, after this sunny day in the Swedish springtime. Even though the evening is a bit chilly. And I suppose I'll hear some engine sounds outside the window now and then during the night too.

My last photo from the late evening - a nice kind of bad photos that I get sometimes.
